DOVER, Del. – Corey Jefferson slugged a home run and drove in two runs while Jordan Lozzi threw seven innings to lead the third-seeded Wesley College baseball team to a 7-5 victory over Frostburg State in the First Round of the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament on Tuesday afternoon at Bob Reed Field.  The Wolverines will take on second-seeded Mary Washington in the Second Round on Friday, April 19 at 4 pm at Salisbury University.

A native of Wilmington, Del., Jefferson took the first pitch he saw in the seventh inning deep to left field, giving Wesley a 7-2 lead.  The homer was Jefferson's first of the season and his third hit of the afternoon.

Lozzi, who improved to 5-2 with the win, allowed just two runs through the first seven innings but Frostburg tagged him for three runs in the eighth before being replaced by Andrew Cooper.  Cooper retired the side to complete the eighth and Rich Lober struck out a pair of batters in the ninth to record his eighth career save, setting a new school-record.

Hailing from Fallston, Md., Lozzi struck out six Bobcats in seven-plus innings while allowing four earned runs on eight hits. 

Frostburg got on the board first with a run in its first at bat, but the lead was short-lived as the Wolverines got two runs off starting pitcher Austin Poretz in their half of the inning. Walks were issued to both Matt Robles and Cory Smith and Robles scored on a single down the right field line by Trevor Mears. Morgan Rupp and Steve Perone then drew back-to-back two-out walks to score Smith.

Jefferson extended the lead to two runs with an RBI single in the third to score Smith who had walked and stole second earlier in the frame.

Wesley tacked on two more runs off Poretz in the fourth thanks to a pair of singles by Perone and Jon Carlson as well as a sacrifice fly by Smith.  Poretz was then replaced by Kenny Georgius to get the final out of the inning after allowing five runs on four hits and eight walks in 3.2 innings.

Sam Farnell drove in Conner Gobright, who had singled and stole second, in the sixth with an RBI single to give the Wolverines a 6-2 lead. Frostburg got that run back in the top of the seventh off Lozzi before Jefferson's home run in the Wesley half of the inning.
