ONEONTA, N.Y. – Despite senior starting pitcher Andrew Grann's (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) strong outing, the State University of New York at New Paltz baseball team (12-14, 8-6 SUNYAC) was unable to defeat SUNY Oneonta (10-18, 5-6 SUNYAC), dropping Tuesday's State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) contest, 1-0, on a soggy afternoon in Oneonta. Game two of Tuesday's scheduled doubleheader was postponed due to inclement weather.

Grann tossed the complete six innings, allowing one run on four hits while striking out six. He suffered the loss after Oneonta starter Benji Parkes threw seven shutout innings to earn the win.

Neither team was able to put a run across until the bottom of the fifth inning. Oneonta left fielder Matt Salvatore led off the inning with a single, and then moved to second on designated hitter Nate Jones' groundout. Right fielder Thomas Hand followed with an RBI single, which proved to be the game winner. The bottom of the fifth was the only inning in which either team had multiple hits.

Senior first baseman Thomas Pinnola (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) accounted for three of the Hawks' four hits, going a perfect 3-for-3 on the afternoon. Senior center fielder Matt Carr (Westbury, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) had the other hit in a 1-for-3 effort. Pinnola and Carr each swiped a bag in Tuesday's loss. Senior left fielderAnthony Repetto (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) saw his hitting streak end at an impressive 13 games.

Hand knocked in the only run for the Red Dragons in a 1-for-2 outing on Tuesday. First baseman Dean Haussel reached base in all three of his trips to the plate, batting 1-for-1 with a single and hit by a pitch twice. He also stole two bases in the win.

A makeup date for Tuesday's postponed contest is yet to be announced. The Hawks play their next game at home on Friday, April 19, as they play host to SUNY Plattsburgh. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. from Loren Campbell Memorial Field. The three-game series with the Cardinals will be capped off with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 20, which is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
