The University of Rochester snapped #20 Ithaca's 18-game winning streak with an 8-6 victory on Tuesday night in non-conference baseball action.

The Yellowjackets (11-14) rallied after the Bombers (22-5) scored five runs in the top of the first inning by bouncing back with four of their own in the first to get right back in the game.  The loss ended the 2nd longest win streak in Ithaca's program history.

After chasing Rochester's starter Dan Warren after the first, reliever Rob Mabee settled in nicely and pitched seven stellar innings.  He allowed five hits, one run and two walks while striking out five.  Junior Jeremy Diller pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for the save.

Ithaca got things started in the first when it capitalized on Warren's control issues.  After two walks and a wild pitch, Corey Caswell came up and clobbered a 3-run home run to left center.  A single and two more walks allowed the Bombers to score their fifth run on an Andrew Turner single up the middle.

But Rochester was resilient and scored four in the first.  After two singles put Sam Slutsky and Ethan Sander on first and third, Sander took off for 2nd giving Slutsky the opportunity to steal home.  Both runners ended up being safe as Ithaca tried to cut the throw off and get the out at home, but the attempt was too late.

Josh Ludwig then tripled in Sander which was followed by an Ithaca error.  Nolan Schultz then stepped up and doubled to left to score another run.  The fourth UR run scored on a Jake Meyerson sacrifice fly, chasing Bomber starter Jasper Adams after just 1/3 of an inning.

Ithaca tallied another run in the third off a Christian Brown single, but would not score any more the rest of the way as Mabee only allowed one Ithaca hit his last five innings of work.  Diller made it six innings with only one base hit after striking out two in the ninth for his second save.

The Yellowjackets were able to tie the score in the bottom of the fifth after a Ludwig sac fly and a Nick Carlson single to left.  The two runners that scored were Slutsky and Sander who finished the day with two hits, two runs and a stolen base apiece.

UR would then grab the lead in the next inning when on a squeeze attempt, Ithaca reliver Andrew Sanders threw the ball away, allowing the eventual winning run to score.  In the eighth, Rochester would get a much needed insurance run when the Ithaca catcher threw the ball into left field when Lance Hamilton was attempting to steal third.

The Yellowjackets don't get much time to celebrate the upset win though as they take to the diamond again on Wednesday against Medaille College.  First pitch is scheduled for 6 pm at Towers Field.
