Titans Score 41 Runs To Sweep Yellowjackets

UW-Oshkosh piled up 41 runs for a pair of runaway victories over UW-Superior on Saturday (April 20) at Tiedemann Field. The Titans (17-4/6-3 WIAC) are ranked 24th by D3baseball.com.

UW-Oshkosh had eight extra-base hits during a 20-2 triumph in the opener. Zac Peterson then hit two of the five two-run homers in a 21-5 nightcap victory. They were the first round-trippers of his career.

The Titans' outburst in the first game featured eight runs in the seventh inning, six in the third and four during the second. Tyler Kamps tied a WIAC record with three doubles, driving home three runs in the second, two in the third and one in the seventh.

UW-Oshkosh's 1-4 hitters totaled 12 hits in the opener. Michael Polcyn scored four times while also driving in two runs. He led off the seventh with a double, before coming up later in the inning and smacking a two-run triple to the right-field corner. Cleanup batter Michael Swift totaled three hits, including a two-run double in the fifth.

UW-Superior's (12-15/5-7 WIAC) scoring came in the second frame. The Yellowjackets marked on a wild pitch and Wyatt Soderquist's groundout.

Soderquist, T.J. Evanson and Brady Flaherty each posted one hit for UW-Superior.

Travis Sindles went five frames, yielding two runs on three hits and seven walks, for the win. Alex Beers allowed 10 runs in three innings for the loss, but just four of those runs were earned.

During the second contest, UW-Oshkosh mashed five home runs, two triples and six doubles among 22 hits. The Titans entered the day with a .496 slugging percentage, but that statistic was a blistering .812 today.

The game was never in doubt after UW-Oshkosh scored eight runs on seven hits and a pair of errors in the first frame. Doug Beattie and Bobby Kachel connected for two-run blasts, while Skyler Bohn tacked on a run-scoring double to centerfield.

Peterson belted his homers during the second and sixth innings. His frozen rope over the LF wall gave the Titans a 21-4 lead in the sixth.

UW-Oshkosh's six-run sixth also featured a two-run double from Kachel. The Titans touched home four times during the fifth, including a two-run homer by Polcyn that splashed into the Fox River.

Brady Flaherty doubled to lead off the UW-Superior second. He eventually scored on a two-run double by Soderquist that cut the deficit to 10-3.

The win went to Brock Guetzke, who pitched the final five innings with one ER and three strikeouts. Kyle Gauger took the defeat, surrendering five ER on 10 hits while getting four outs. Aaron Martin tossed three innings with five runs allowed for UW-Superior.
