Thomas More Defeats Waynesburg, 8-1, to Win PAC Series

(WAYNESBURG, Pa.) - The Thomas More College baseball team defeated Waynesburg University, 8-1, today (Sunday, April 21, 2013) to win the three-game Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) series at the Waynesburg Baseball Field in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania.

With the win, the Saints improve to 22-8 overall and 12-5 in the PAC and the Yellow Jackets fall to 14-15 overall and 7-10 in the PAC.

Waynesburg took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but the Saints rallied and scored five runs in the third, two in the fourth and one in the fifth for the 8-1 victory.

Senior pitcher Grant Lewis (Mason, Ohio/Mason) earned the win on the mound as he pitched seven innings and gave up one run (earned) on three hits and struck out one. Junior pitcher Andy Roenker (Taylor Mill, Ky./Holy Cross) pitched two scoreless innings of relief and gave up three hits, while striking out one.

Four Saints had multiple hits in the game as junior center fielder Cody Makin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was three-for-four with two doubles, two runs batted-in and a run scored, sophomore catcher Brad Popham (Edgewood, Ky./Dixie Heights) was three-for-four with two runs scored and a RBI, freshman second baseman Marcus Woelfel (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison) was three-for-five with two RBI and a run scored and sophomore left fielder Nick Connor (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was two-for-four with two runs scored.

Thomas More returns to the field on Tuesday (April 23) when it hosts Capital University in non-conference game. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
