The Dominican University baseball team managed to snap a six-game losing streak as they picked up a game two victory in a doubleheader with the Edgewood College Eagles on Saturday afternoon, winning game two 5-4 after dropping game one 6-0.

In game one, the Stars managed only seven hits and committed six errors in the field behind starting pitcher Mitch McCaffery ( Johnson Creek, Wis.). While tossing his fourth complete game of the season, McCaffery was charged just one earned run while scattering 12 hits and walking one while striking out four.

The Stars turned it all around in game two, scraping together five runs on three hits, five walks and seven hit batsmen while capitalizing on two Edgewood College errors.

The Stars got on the board early in the second. Quinlan Milne Rojek (Minneapolis, Minn.) singled down the left field line to help drive in Brian Costello (Norridge, Ill.) from third. Right after, Kevin Schwer (Evergreen Park, Ill.) was hit by an off-speed pitch by the Eagles. Schwer managed to get an RBI as Jordan Regez (Byron, Ill.) came across.
In the fifth, the Eagles managed to tie up the game with two runs in the bottom of the inning. The Stars put up another run in the sixth. Alex Hernandez (Des Plaines, Ill.) hit a chopper to the shortstop which helped drive in Costello. The Eagles matched that run in the bottom of the inning to make it a three all ballgame.

Before the stretch, the Stars put up another run as Adam Quinn (Libertyville, Ill.) grounded out to second but managed to drive in Lucas McKinney (Arvada, Colo.). The Stars held the Eagles until the bottom of the eighth.

The Eagles hit a double to right center which allowed them to tie up the game. The Stars hitting did not stop there as Quinn hit a sac-fly to right which helped score Schwer. Schwer's run would be the last run that would cross the dish for both teams.

The Stars would not have gotten the victory without junior Ryan Kukla (Chicago, Ill.). Kukla pitched a gem for the Stars on the bump. Kukla tossed a complete game, pitched under a 100 pitches, gave up four runs on seven hits, two earned runs, three walks, and punched out three. Kukla's arm led him to his third victory of year. Kukla is now 3-1 with his second complete game in the bag.

The Stars return to action tomorrow for a Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader versus the Lakeland College Muskies. First pitch is set for 1:05 PM in Schaumburg.
