BELLEROSE, N.Y. – Matt Sola-Baker recorded a career-high three hits in a 3-for-4 performance at the dish, leadoff hitter Eric Quatrone finished 2-for-5 with one RBI and a stolen base and the City College of New York (4-24) outhit its opponent nine to seven but sloppy defense allowed John Jay College (4-21) to take Sunday's rubber game at Padavan Preller Field, 8-4.

Sola-Baker added one run and one RBI after starting his first game since April 13 while Quatrone has increased his batting average to .268 after his multi-hit performance this morning. CCNY's eight errors on defense were a season-high as City College couldn't overcome its defensive miscues in the nonconference bout.

Dauris Tavarez (0-5) registered the loss after striking out six in 5.0 innings and allowing eight runs – three earned. Freshman right-hander Chris Cracchiolo (1-4) earned his first career collegiate victory, going 7.0 innings and allowing all four runs. Max Mueller came out of the Beaver bullpen to throw 3.0 scoreless innings.

The Bloodhounds took an early lead, plating two baserunnners in the bottom of the first. The Beavers struck back in the top of the second, as Anthony Colon led off the frame with a single. After advancing to second base on a ground out and a walk to Chris Jimenez, a wild pitch allowed Colon to advance to third base. A squeeze play by Yoribaldis Olivo gave the Beavers their first run of the game as Colon scored and Jimenez moved into scoring position.

Sola-Baker then ripped a double down the left field line to tie the game at 2-2. The double was the first of the infielder's career.

However, John Jay answered back with three runs in the bottom frame to take a 5-2 lead on two hits and two errors. JJ added two runs in the next inning on one hit and two errors to take a five-run lead.

Olivo led off the top of the fifth with a double and moved to third base on a Sola-Baker single. Quatrone reached on an infield single to plate Olivo and after an error loaded the bases, Emmanuel Nwokelo picked up an RBI ground out as CCNY cut its deficit to 7-4.

Once again, John Jay capitalized on CCNY's errors, as two errors led to one run for the Bloodhounds. Mueller then entered the contest in the sixth inning and did not allow a run in 3.0 innings.

City College heads to the College of Old Westbury on Tuesday for a 5 p.m. slate.
