Thomas More Falls, 5-4, to Division I Cincinnati

(CINCINNATI, Ohio) – The Thomas More College baseball team led into the seventh inning, but fell, 5-4, to Division I University of Cincinnati tonight (Wednesday, April 24, 2013) in a non-conference game at Marge Schott Stadium.

With the win, the Bearcats improve 17-22 and the Saints fall to 22-10

UC took a 3-0 lead after three innings as it scored one in the first and two in the third. The Saints tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the fourth inning on a three-run home run by junior center fielder Cody Makin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder). A run batted-in single by senior right fielder Ryan Darner (Burlington, Ky./Covington Catholic) in the top of the fifth inning gave the Saints a 4-3 lead. The Bearcats tied the game at 4-4 with a run in the seventh inning. UC then plated a run in the bottom of the eighth and held Thomas More scoreless in the top of the ninth for the 5-4 victory.

Freshman pitcher Logan Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) had a no-decision as he pitched seven innings and gave up four runs (earned) on seven hits and struck out one. Junior pitcher Andy Roenker (Taylor Mill, Ky./Holy Cross) earned the loss as he pitched one inning of relief and gave up one run (earned) on two hits.

At the plate, Darner, Makin, junior third baseman Travis Miller (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) and freshman pinch hitter Donovan Pogue (Sharonville, Ohio/St. Xavier) all had a hit in the game.

The Saints return to action tomorrow (Thursday, April 25) when they travel to Washington, Pennsylvania to play Washington & Jefferson College. First pitch for the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Ross Memorial Park.
