Seventh-Ranked Warhawks Prevail In Tripleheader

UW-Whitewater scored in 14 straight innings while taking 2-of-3 games against UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday (April 24) at Tiedemann Field. The Warhawks (24-5/15-2 WIAC) are ranked seventh by D3baseball.com.

Bobby Kachel launched a home run in each game for the Titans (18-8/7-7 WIAC). He finished the day with five hits, five runs scored and seven RBI.

The first contest was delayed by rain on April 17 before being resumed today in the third inning.

Game one – UW-Oshkosh 11, UW-Whitewater 1
The Titans scored in all six of their at-bats, including a five-run sixth inning and a two-run second. Doug Beattie singled home a run in the second to make it 3-0. UW-Oshkosh then tallied run RBI doubles by Robbie Kleman, Tyler Kamps and Zac Peterson.

In the sixth, UW-Oshkosh started with two doubles, a triple and a single. Kachel followed with a two-run blast over the centerfield wall for the final margin.

Joe Pavlovich fired a complete game with four strikeouts and one earned run. Quintin Zander took the loss, allowing three ER over 2.1 frames. Curtis Morgan pitched the last 3.2 innings and let in seven runs.

Game two – UW-Whitewater 18, UW-Oshkosh 6
UW-Oshkosh's defense committed seven errors, including four in the first inning. The Warhawks scored twice in the opening frame, but Kachel responded with a two-run homer that tied the score.

In the fourth, UW-Whitewater hit two sacrifice flies and got a run-scoring single by Jared Fon.

The offensive barrage continued with four runs in the sixth and three during both the eighth and ninth innings. Steven Bartlein connected for a two-run homer before Dylan Friend's two-run triple made it 15-5.

Matt Roberts earned the victory, going 7.1 innings with five ER and 8 K. After Chad Wyss allowed three runs in three frames for UW-Oshkosh, Matt Sabel took the loss when he allowed three runs without getting an out.

Game three – UW-Whitewater 20, UW-Oshkosh 3
Leadoff batter Michael Gonzalez went 4-for-5 with four RBI to lead the 21-hit performance by UW-Whitewater. The Warhawks smacked two-run homers with two outs in each of the first three innings. Bartlein, Friend and Mikole Pierce utilized the strong wind blowing out to take an 8-0 lead.

The Titans opened their third frame with a walk and single. Kachel came up next and delivered a three-run drive to left field.

UW-Whitewater put the game out of reach with eight runs in the fourth. Two men scored on a failed pickoff throw. Fon and Pierce also had two-run singles during the frame.

Tom Kerndt (win) fanned 10 batters while allowing three runs in six innings. Starter Travis Sindles accepted the defeat after allowing eight runs in 2.2 frames. Ian Zahn took the mound next and gave up seven runs over 0.2 innings.

UW-Oshkosh has a week off before traveling to UW-Stevens Point on May 1.
