Saints Fall, 12-2, at Washington & Jefferson

(WASHINGTON, Pa.) - The Thomas More College baseball team fell, 12-2, to Washington & Jefferson College today (Thursday, April 25, 2013) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at Ross Memorial Park in Washington, Pennsylvania.

With the win, the Presidents improve to 19-10 overall and 15-6 in the PAC and the Saints fall to 22-11 and 12-6 in the PAC.

W&J scored three runs in the first, three in the third, five in the fourth and one in the seventh and held Thomas More to two runs in the fifth for the 12-2 victory.

At the plate, senior shortstop David Kennett (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City), freshman second baseman Marcus Woelfel (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison), junior center fielder Cody Makin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder), sophomore first baseman Craig Hyson (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) and senior pitcher David Etscheid (Union, Ky./Ryle) each had a hit in the game.

Senior pitcher Mike Hager (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) suffered the loss on the mound as he gave up 11 runs (nine earned) on 13 hits and struck out three. Senior Grant Lewis (Mason, Ohio/Mason) pitched two scoreless innings of relief and gave up three hits and struck out two, freshman Zach Fardo (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) pitched one inning and gave up one run (earned) on three hits and Etscheid pitched one scoreless inning and struck out two.

The Saints return to action on Saturday (April 27) when they open a three-game PAC series with Saint Vincent College at Thomas More Field with doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
