#6 Cortland Wins 14-3 at Fredonia

FREDONIA, N.Y. – Senior Kyle Barkley (Penn Yan) allowed one run over six innings and junior Tim Panetta (Mount Kisco/Fox Lane) went 3-for-4 with a homer, double and three RBI as nationally sixth-ranked Cortland defeated Fredonia, 14-3.

Cortland (29-8, 13-3 SUNYAC) will complete the SUNYAC regular-season schedule on Saturday with a doubleheader at Fredonia at noon. The Blue Devils (16-12, 7-9 SUNYAC) need either one win Saturday or one Oneonta loss in its doubleheader versus Brockport to clinch the fourth and final spot in next week's SUNYAC tournament.

Barkley improved to 6-1 with the victory. He scattered six hits and two walks and struck out four over his six innings of work.

Five Red Dragons finished with double-figure hits. In addition to Panetta's three-hit performance, junior Anthony Iacomini (South Salem/John Jay-Cross River) went 2-for-3 with a walk and junior P.J. Rinaldi (Bethel, CT) finished 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI. Senior John Adornetto (Commack) was 2-for-4 with a walk and senior Zack Graczyk (Carmel) ended 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Ian Gallagher finished 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI and Conner Lorenzo was 2-for-2 with two walks for Fredonia. Sean Larson allowed nine hits and nine runs, six earned, over five innings. He walked four and struck out three.

Adornetto led off the game with a double and eventually scored on a wild pitch, and Rinaldi tripled in a run later in the first to put Cortland up 2-0. The Red Dragons scored five in the second, highlighted by Graczyk and Rinaldi RBI singles, and Panetta hit a two-run homer in the fifth to extend the lead to 9-0.

Fredonia scored on a fielder's choice in the fifth , but Cortland put three runs on the board in the top of the sixth on back-to-back sacrifice flies by Max Rosing (Rockville Centre/South Side) and Bryan Marotta (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) and a Panetta RBI double. Conrad Ziemendorf (Penfield/Webster Schroeder) doubled in a run in the seventh and Michael DeCarr (Syracuse/Westhill) drove in a run with a groundout in the ninth.

Fredonia's final two runs came in the bottom of the eighth on a Gallagher two-run double.
