WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. – Mike Smith went 2-for-3 with a triple, home run, two runs and three RBI in game one, Yoribaldis Olivo finished 2-for-3 with three runs scored and Andrew Mulvey threw 6.0 innings, striking out six and allowing just three runs as the City College of New York (5-29) defeated Bard College (8-18), 5-3, in game one before falling 5-1 in game two at Dutchess Stadium on Friday afternoon.

Smith's two-run home run came in the opening frame and gave CCNY a 2-0 lead over the Raptors and was the fifth on the year for the junior. Olivo added two stolen bases while Smith successfully swiped one bag in the game one victory.

Mulvey (3-7) ended his Beaver career on a high note, throwing 6.0 innings and striking out six for his third victory of the season. Dauris Tavarez shut the door in the seventh with a perfect frame to earn his first save of the season to end his CCNY career.

Game One

After taking a 2-0 lead on the home run by Smith, Olivo led off the third inning with a single and stole second to put a runner in scoring position to lead off the inning. Smith walked to put runners on first and second and a double steal/throwing error allowed Olivo to come around and score from second, giving the Beavers a 3-0 lead.

The Raptors would put up a run on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth to cut their deficit to 3-1.

The hot-hitting Smith continued his torrid pace and ripped a triple to right field, plating Olivo, who reached on a single to begin the fifth inning and take a 4-1 advantage. Scoring on a sacrifice fly by Angel Zapata, Smith gave the Beavers a 5-1 lead.

Bard threatened in the bottom frame, plating two runners on a two-run double before a beautiful throw by Zapata gunned out the runner at home plate, preserving a 5-3 lead for CCNY. That was all Mulvey and the Beavers needed as City College took game one, 5-3.

Nolan Reese (1-1) was tagged with the loss after allowing three runs – two earned – in 3.0 innings.

Game Two

Eric Quatrone put the finishing touches on a spectacular season campaign, going 2-for-4 from the leadoff spot but left-hander Adam Flowers (1-4) did it all for Bard, going all 7.0 innings and striking out eight while finishing 2-for-4 from the plate.

Felice Martino (1-7) was tagged with the loss although he was excellent on the bump for CCNY, going 5.0 innings and allowing four runs – two earned.

The Raptors came out firing in game two, plating four runners in the opening innings to take a 4-0 lead. Three singles in the third gave CCNY its first run of the contest, after Quatrone reached on an infield single, Smith singled and Zapata drove in Quatrone.

However, Bard added two insurance runs and took game two, 5-1, behind brilliant pitching by Flowers.
