RIC Ends Season With Split at Plymouth State

Plymouth, N.H.-Junior first baseman Justin Rainville (Cumberland, RI) went 5-for-11 with a double, a triple and three RBI as Rhode Island College split a Little East Conference doubleheader at Plymouth State on Friday afternoon to wrap up the 2013 season.

 

Rhode Island College (12-27, 5-9 LEC) lost game one, 8-7 (11 innings), and bounced back to win the nightcap, 8-2. The Anchormen finished the regular season tied for sixth place with Western Connecticut, but the Colonials secured the sixth and final spot for the upcoming 2013 Little East Conference Baseball Tournament, which begins on May 8, on a tiebreaker.

 

In addition to Rainville, freshman catcher Matt Foley (Seekonk, MA) went 4-for-7 with three runs scored, two doubles, two RBI and three walks. Sophomore second baseman Mario Albunia (Jersey City, NJ) went 4-for-9 with three RBI and one run scored, while freshman third baseman Justin Costa (Cranston, RI) went 3-for-10 with a run scored and three RBI.

 

 Junior pitcher C.J. Tsoumakas (Hope, RI) earned the win (2-5) in game two, allowing just one earned run on seven hits, while striking out seven in eight innings of work.
