Third-Seeded Thomas More Falls, 10-1, to Top-Seeded W&J in PAC Tournament

(WASHINGTON, Pa.) – The third-seeded Thomas More College baseball team fell, 10-1, to top-seeded Washington & Jefferson College today (Friday, May 10, 2013) in the winner's bracket finals of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament at Ross Memorial Park in Washington, Pennsylvania.

With the loss, the Saints fall to 28-13 and will play either second-seeded Thiel College or fourth-seeded Saint Vincent College in an elimination game tomorrow at 12 p.m. With the win, the Presidents improve to 29-11 and will play in the championship game tomorrow at a time to announce later today by the PAC office.

W&J scored one run in the first, one in the fourth, one in the sixth, five in the eighth and two in the ninth and held Thomas More to one run in the fourth for the 10-1 victory.

Junior left fielder Jason Handley (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) led the team at the plate as he was two-for-four. Junior center fielder Cody Makin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder), sophomore first baseman Craig Hyson (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) and senior designated hitter David Etscheid (Union, Ky./Ryle) each had a hit in the game.

Senior pitcher Grant Lewis (Mason, Ohio/Mason) suffered the loss on the mound as he pitched seven and a third innings and gave up seven runs (two earned) on eight hits and struck out five.
