UW-Whitewater was unable to solve the puzzle that was UW-La Crosse.  For the second time in two days the fourth seeded Eagles defeated the top seeded Warhawks in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament.  Sunday the Eagles won 12-2 in seven innings to eliminate UW-W from the tourney.  Saturday the Eagles defeated UW-W 6-0.  UW-W, now 34-7 overall, will await the announcement of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III national tournament field on Monday at 9 am on NCAA.com.

The Eagles opened up posting a five spot in the bottom of the first and kept building.  They added a run in the third to make it 6-0 but the Warhawks answered in the fourth when Jared Fon (Germantown/Germantown) hit a solo homer to right field, his third of the season, to make it 6-1.

The Eagles notched two more in the bottom of the fourth to go ahead 8-1, but UW-W tallied a run in the top of the fifth to inch closer at 8-2.

The Eagles answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth, two in the sixth, and one more in the seventh to close the game out by virtue of the WIAC's run differential rule.

Kevin Johnson, 6-2, pitched the full seven innings for UW-L to earn the win.  Johnson gave up just four hits in the game and struck out three.  The La Crosse offense was led by DH Adam Cordova and third baseman Josh Rowles, both with a 3x4 game.  Seven Eagles had a multiple hit game.  UW-W totaled four hits.

Over the two games against La Crosse in the WIAC Tournament, Whitewater totaled three runs and six hits.

UW-La Crosse, 20-20, advances to the championship game of the WIAC tournament where they will face-off against UW-Stevens Point.  The Eagles will have to defeat UW-SP two times to earn the crown because of the tournament's double-elimination format.
