ZILG LEADS RAMAPO IN 4-0 BLANKING IN NCAA OPENER

Moosic, PA: The #6 Ramapo College baseball team blanked #3 Misericordia University today in the first round of the 2013 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Baseball Regional, 4-0.

The Roadrunners advance to game eight of the regional where they wait for the winner of #2 Keystone College and #7 Franklin & Marshall. Ramapo's second game of the tournament is slated to being tomorrow night at 7:45pm.

Ramapo scored single runs in four different innings to take a 4-0 lead. In the second inning, sophomore Zach Carroll drove in sophomore Chris Werr with a triple down the right field line for the games first run. In the fourth inning, junior Brandon Berger laced a double down the right field line before he moved to third on a pop fly. Rookie Ryan Rinsky then drove a line drove home Berger with a line drive sac fly to center field, 2-0.

Werr led off the fourth inning with a walk before he would score on a strike-three wild pitch, 3-0.

The Roadrunners would get out of a jam in the bottom of the 7th inning with runner's on first and third and one out. Ramapo senior pitcher Travis Zilg induced a inning ending ground ball double play. Senior second basemen Anthony Vinci fielded the ball, stepped on second for the second out and threw to Berger at first base to complete the play. In the ninth, Ramapo added one run, extending their lead 4-0.

Zilg, went the distance in the shutout for his sixth win of the year and 21st of his career. He recorded ten strikeouts, matching a career high. Zilg scattered five hits while not walking a batter. Werr scored two runs for Ramapo while Vinci, Jacob, senior Christian Spurr, Berger and Carroll each recorded a hit for the Roadrunners.
