Moosic, Pa. (5/16/13) – Sophomore Charles Thielmann recorded his sixth complete game of the season as the Kean University baseball team defeated Alvernia University by the final of 5-2 Thursday evening.

With the win, Kean (36-10) advances in the bracket and will face the winner of Keystone College/Ramapo College on Friday at 4:30 p.m.  The loss sends Alvernia (34-10) into the elimination bracket where they will face the host Cougars of Misericordia University at 10 a.m.

The Cougars wasted little time getting on the board all with two outs in their first at-bat.  Sophomore Andy Lopez placed a bloop single into left and senior Nick Ramagli followed with a single into left.  Junior Joe O'Connor then lined a double down the line, driving in both, for a 2-0 lead.  Rookie Salvatore Taormina kept the hit parade going with an RBI single to right, putting the Cougars on top, 3-0.

Kean made it 4-0 in the fourth as rookie Matt Meleo reached via a two out double.  He would come around and score on a Tyler Smarslok single.  Alvernia broke through in the bottom of the same inning as Chris Gehris delivered a two RBI single.

Ramagli added insurance in the eighth with a two out RBI double, scoring Smarslok who reached on a walk.

Thielmann (9-2) allowed one earned run with four strikeouts and no walks, while scattering 10 hits.  Starter James Colgan (1-1) suffered the loss for Alvernia.  He allowed three runs and six hits in two and a third innings.

Offensively, Lopez and Ramagli each registered 3-for-5 days.
