#3 Kean Defeats Baruch in Season-Opener

More news about: Baruch

The Baruch baseball team dropped their season-opener by the score of 10-4 on Saturday afternoon to #3-ranked Kean University in Union, New Jersey.

Kean totaled 10 runs on 10 hits and took advantage of three Baruch errors for the win at their home baseball complex.

They jumped out early to a 3-0 lead, but the visiting Bearcats scored a run in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by John Yuksekol to score Nicholas-Pomo-Roman for the team's first run of the year.

The Cougars, currently ranked #3 in the D3baseball.com poll, scored four runs in their bottom half of the fourth and seemed to be on cruise control for the win.

However, the Bearcats tried to rally back with a run in the fifth inning on a RBI single by Juan Balbuena to bring home Eric Ulino.

They added two more runs in the seventh inning to cut the score to 7-4. Matthew Ballone scored on a fielding error and Ulino scored his second run on a wild pitch to keep the game interesting at 7-4.

The Cougars scored three more times in their bottom half of the eight inning and that sealed the victory.

The Bearcats will continue their challenging early season schedule on Friday, February 28, at 2:00 pm, against #2-ranked Southern Maine at Baseball Heaven in Yaphank, New York.

The game will be a part of four total games being played next weekend at the Baseball Heaven Tournament hosted by SUNY-Old Westbury
