Treadway pitches Pacific (Ore.) past Texas Lutheran 2-1

SEGUIN, Texas -- Pacific University (Ore.) pitcher/designated hitter Kyle Treadway pitched eight strong innings and drove in the eventual winning run on a fielder's choice to lead the Boxers to a 2-1 road win over Texas Lutheran.

Sunday at TLU's Katt-Isbel Field, Treadway (1-0) struck out seven and worked around two walks and five hits. Topher Mood notched the save with a one-hit ninth.

TLU dropped to 8-4 with the non-conference loss. Pacific improved to 2-1. Klaus Bohrmann (San Antonio/Johnson) and Keaton Bohrman (San Antonio/Johnson) each registered a couple of hits for TLU. Keaton Bohrmann doubled with two outs in the fourth and scored when the next batter, his brother Klaus, doubled to give TLU a 1-0 lead.

Pacific countered in the top of the fifth with an RBI triple from shortstop Donnie Bradley.

The Boxers took the lead for good in the seventh. Ben Duerr singled to lead-off the frame, and Colin McCusker reached on an error while executing a sacrifice bunt. A sacrifice bunt by Bradley moved runners to second and third with one out before a walk to Walker Olis loaded the bases. Treadway then beat out a potential double-play ball as Duerr scored the unearned run.

Conner Capdau (Sugar Land/Lamar Consolidated) took the loss with 2/3 of an inning pitched. Capdau fell to 1-1. Cody Moore (Houston/Cypress Falls) started for the Bulldogs and pitched four scoreless innings. He struck out five (all five in the first two innings).

Thomas Harwell (Houston/Atascocita), Kyle Simmons (Las Vegas, Nev./Silverado) and Blake Balazs (Austin/Westwood) also saw time on the mound for the Bulldogs. Simmons pitched 1-1/3 innings and struck out one without allowing a hit or a walk. He worked out of a second bases loaded jam in the seventh.

TLU begins Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Friday and Saturday with a three-game set at Schreiner University. Friday's opening game begins at 2 p.m. in Kerrville, Texas. Saturday's doubleheader is set for a 1 p.m. start.
