FOREST GROVE – Linfield capitalized on the big inning to spoil Pacific's 2014 home opener Saturday, stringing together high production innings to sweep the Boxers in Northwest Conference baseball action at Chuck Bafaro Stadium.
 
The Wildcats built a 6-2 in the first three innings of the opener before blowing the game open with an eight-run fourth inning en route to an 18-3 victory.  The Wildcats did not allow Pacific across the plate in the second game while tallying a five-run fifth and a four-run eighth inning to post an 11-0 shutout.
 
Eric Lawson led Linfield with a 6 for 10 afternoon, going 3 for 5 in each game, and had four RBIs in the opener.  Kyle Treadway (Jr., Phoenix, Ore.) had three hits on the day to lead the Boxers, two of which came in the first game.
 
Liinfield, the defending NCAA Division III national champion and the No. 1 ranked team in the D3Baseball.com Top-25 Preseason Poll, improved to 9-1, 2-0 NWC.  Pacific dropped to 3-4, 0-2 NWC.
 
GAME 1: LINFIELD 18, PACIFIC 3
Linfield turned a leadoff walk into a run in the top of the first.  The Boxers then strung three one-out hits off of starter Chris Haddeland in the home half of the frame, with Donnie Bradley (Jr., Beaverton, Ore.) scoring on Walker Olis' (So., Burlington, Wash.) single to left center field.  The Wildcats responded with a three-run second inning, two on Eric Lawson's two-run single down the left field line.
 
The Wildcats turned two Pacific errors into runs in the third inning.  Pacific took a single run back in the fourth when Olis reached on a one-out double and scored on Treadway's double to left.
 
Linfield blew the game open with their eight-run fourth inning, all of which came with two outs.  Nate McClellan opened scoring with a double that scored Lawson.  McClellan then scored on a balk and a wild pitch and Corey VanDomelen drew a bases loaded walk to score Jo Carroll.  Lawson then knocked a two-run single to right field in his second at-bat of the inning and Nick Fisher scored two more with a double to center field.
 
Fisher gave the Wildcats a 17-2 lead in the sixth with a three-run homer that went off the batter's eye in straightaway center field.  The Boxers scored their final run of the game without the benefit of a hit in the seventh.  Nathan Suyematsu (So., Tualatin, Ore.) led off with a walk and then scored on a fielder's choice.  Linfield added one more run in the eighth.
 
Haddeland improved to 3-0 with the victory, allowing two runs, one earned, on eight hits with a walk and six strikeouts in six innings.  Jimmy Brakebush (So., Portland, Ore.) dropped to 1-2 with the loss for the Boxers, allowing 13 runs, 11 earned, on nine hits with three walks and three strikeouts in 3.2 innings.  Lawson's 3 for 5 performance at the plate led Linfield, while Olis and Treadway had two hits each for the Boxers.
 
GAME 2: LINFIELD 11, PACIFIC 0
Linfield opened the nightcap with a two-out run in the first as Fisher tripled and scored on Kramer Lindell's infield single.  The Wildcats then added one run in the third when VanDomelen walked and then scored on a sacrifice fly.
 
The Wildcats put the game away with their five-run fifth inning.  Lawson opened the frame by reaching on an error and scored on Fisher's single to center field.  Two batters later, Carroll added a two-run double to left center field.  The final two runs came across on a wild pitch and a passed ball.  Linfield then added four runs in the eighth inning, two on a double to left field by Clayton Truex.
 
The Boxers came closest to scoring in the eighth inning when Suyematsu doubled and advanced to third on a fielder's choice before reliever Justin Davis coaxed Treadway into a ground out to end the threat.
 
Zacn Hrandon earned the win for Linfield to improve to 1-1 on the season.  He allowed just five hits and two walks while striking out four in seven innings.  Tyler Kotchik (Jr., Beaverton, Ore.) took the loss to drop to 1-2 on the season allowing seven runs, five earned, on eight hits with four walks and two strikeouts in 4.1 innings.  Lawson went 3 for 5 to lead Linfield at the plate while Austin Gallagher (Jr., Lake Oswego, Ore.) went 2 for 4 to lead the Boxers.
 
The two teams will complete their three-game series tomorrow afternoon at Chuck Bafaro Stadium, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.  A live video webcast of the game will be available at GoBoxers.com.
