No. 11 Salisbury 7, New Paltz 1

A three-run third and a three-run fourth helped Salisbury take game one, as the Sea Gulls scattered 10 hits in the victory.

Salisbury got on the board in the first inning, as junior designated hitter Bobby Sanzone ripped an RBI double to left field that scored freshman shortstop Pete Grasso. New Paltz responded in the top half of the second, however, as senior designated hitter Andrew Grann (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) scored on a wild pitch to knot the score at 1-all.

The Sea Gulls led off the home half of the third with back-to-back-to-back doubles, with the final two by senior first baseman Quinn Griffith and Sanzone plating one run each. Junior catcher Austin Barefoot rounded out the inning's scoring with a sacrifice fly to center field with one out.

Salisbury added insurance runs in the fourth, as junior left fielder Jordan Gowe pushed across two runs with an RBI single to center field with two outs, and senior third baseman Ken O'Neill brought in Gowe with an RBI double to right center during the next at-bat.

Senior pitcher Chris Pyz (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) was saddled with the loss, giving up four runs on five hits, a walk and a hit by pitch while striking out one in two innings of work. Freshman pitcher Brett Wisner (Forest Hills, N.Y./Forest Hills) threw one scoreless inning of relief, while junior pitcher Roy Missall (Hemlock, N.Y./Honeoye Central) tossed two scoreless innings coming out of the bullpen as well.

Junior pitcher Brett Collacchi earned the win on the hill for Salisbury, yielding one run on four hits and two walks while striking out five.

Four different Hawks had a hit in the game, while Salisbury was led offensively by Griffith (2-for-4, two runs scored, one RBI, one double), Sanzone (2-for-4, two runs scored, two RBI, two doubles) and senior second baseman Johnny Schiotis (2-for-3).

No. 11 Salisbury 8, New Paltz 2

An early offensive explosion by the Sea Gulls ultimately put the game out of reach in the nightcap. Salisbury once again finished with 10 hits, while New Paltz posted two.

The Sea Gulls struck first in the first inning, as senior center fielder Bill Root scored after New Paltz opted to throw out a would-be base stealer at second base. Root factored into scoring once again in the second, plating O'Neill with an RBI single. The Sea Gulls pushed across two more in the frame, as Grasso drew a bases-loaded hit by pitch before Griffith scored junior right fielder Danny Breen with a single to the shortstop.

In the third, Salisbury made it a 6-0 game after receiving a sacrifice fly from O'Neill and an RBI double by sophomore catcher Joey Gumpman. New Paltz got one back in the fifth, as senior catcher David Lostaglio (Milton, N.Y./Marlboro Central) drove in a run with a bases-loaded groundout, but Salisbury swelled the edge to 8-1 in the home half of the sixth, receiving a bases-loaded walk from Sanzone and an RBI single by Gowe.

New Paltz rounded out the game's scoring in the seventh, as sophomore pinch hitter Taylor Anderson (East New Market, Md./Cambridge-South Dorchester) drove in senior second baseman Kenny Gentile (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) with an RBI groundout.

Grann was tagged with the game-two loss, yielding five runs off seven hits, a walk and a hit by pitch in two innings of duty. Sophomore pitcher Dan Morgan (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) permitted just one run off two hits in two innings of relief, while sophomore pitcher Christian Huertas (Bronx, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) retired the side in order in the fifth.

Sophomore pitcher Connor Shockley gained the win for Salisbury, permitting one unearned run off one hit, six walks and two hit by pitches while striking out three in four innings of duty.

Freshman left fielder/third baseman Anthony Diana (North Amawalk, N.Y./Somers) was the lone Hawk to notch multiple hits on the afternoon, as he went 2-for-3 with a double in game two. Gumpman (2-for-3, one run scored, one RBI, one double) and Gowe (2-for-4, one run scored, one RBI) each had multi-hit outings for Salisbury.
