AUBURNDALE, FLA. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology held off a late charge by St. Vincent to earn a 10-9 victory in game two of the annual baseball spring trip to Florida on Monday.

Rose-Hulman scored three times in the second inning, four times in the fourth and twice in the fifth frame to build a 10-5 advantage.  St. Vincent rallied with three runs in the seventh and one in the eighth to move within 10-9, before sophomore Alex McNally (Geneva, Ill./Wheaton Academy) pitched a scoreless ninth for his first college save.

Offensively, Rose-Hulman slapped 16 hits and St. Vincent had 18 in a back-and-forth battle.  Junior Josh Hoeing (Rushville) led the Fightin' Engineers with two doubles, two singles, three runs scored and two RBIs.  Senior Andrew Benitez (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililiani) added three singles, scored twice and had one RBI.

Sophomore Caleb Kissel (Plainfield, Ill./North), freshman Zach Trusk (Plainfield, Ill./North) and sophomore Donnie Waters (Franklin) added two hits each to the lineup.  Kissel had two singles and one RBI, Trusk added two singles, and Waters had a double, single and scored twice.

St. Vincent had six players with multiple hits, but clutch pitching by the Engineers forced 14 runners to be stranded in the contest.  Sophomore Karson Nixon (Jasper) had four strikeouts in four innings of work, sophomore Gunnar Hutchison (Vincennes/Lincoln) added three strikeouts in 2.2 innings, and McNally had a pair of strikeouts in his scoreless ninth to earn the save.

Rose-Hulman stands 2-0 on the season and will face 2013 NCAA Division III Tournament participant Mount Union on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
