Levine's Walk Off RBI Leads Rams in Home Opener

More news about: Farmingdale State

Farmingdale State - 9, Brockport State - 8

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Junior designated hitter Ryan Levine (West Babylon, N.Y.) hit a one out walk off RBI sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth to lead Farmingdale State to a 9-8 victory over Brockport State this afternoon. The Rams improved to 2-0 on the season, while the Golden Eagles fell to 1-1.

Trailing 5-3 in the bottom of the second inning, junior third baseman John Speelman (Farmingdale, N.Y.) hit a one out single to right and advanced to second on a Brendan Sullivan (Plainview, N.Y.) infield hit. Senior centerfielder Edward Bergmann (East Meadow, N.Y.) hit an RBI single to left in Farmingdale State's next at-bat to cut the deficit to 5-4.

After Brockport extended their lead to 6-4, Bergmann again pulled the Rams within one in the fourth with an RBI single to second base. Junior shortstop Anthony Alvino (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) tied the game at 6-6 with an RBI single to center field. Farmingdale State added two unearned runs and opened up an 8-6 advantage.

In the top of the eighth, pinch hitter John Craig (Clifton Park, N.Y.) hit an RBI sac fly, before a game-tying double through the left side by left fielder Colin Grande (Clifton Park, N.Y.)

Junior second baseman Tom Rydzewski (Franklin Square, N.Y.) led off the bottom of the ninth with a single to center and advanced to second on a stolen base. After a Dalton McCarthy (Manorville, N.Y.) groundout moved Rydzewski to third, a pair of intentional walks loaded the bases with one out. Levine's sacrifice fly to left scored Rydzewski and led Farmingdale State to the 9-8 non-conference victory.

Bergman was 4-for-5 at the plate with 2 RBI and two runs scored, while junior right fielder Michael Marino (Franklin Square, N.Y.) was 2-for-3 with a run batted in.

The Golden Eagles were led by junior catcher Shawn Peake (Liverpool, N.Y.) who was 1-for-4 with 3 RBI.

Sophomore pitcher Alex Weingarten (2-0) (East Rockaway, N.Y.) earned the win after throwing two scoreless innings in relief. Senior pitcher Chris Dragone (Hicksville, N.Y.) allowed one run and three hits over four innings of work.

Farmingdale State next will host Eastern Connecticut later today at 4:15 p.m.
