FOREST GROVE – Saturday's marathon doubleheader between Pacific and Lewis & Clark appropriately went a total of 26 innings Saturday as the Boxers and Pioneers each won one game in their Northwest Conference baseball twinbill at Chuck Bafaro Stadium.
 
After trailing 6-2 after six innings of the opener, Pacific rallied for four runs in the seventh and matched the Pioneers single run in the eighth with a run in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings.  The Boxers finally pulled through in the 17th inning when Ryan Sohn (So., Ventura, Calif.) scored on a wild pitch with two outs to give Pacific the 9-8 victory.
 
In the nightcap, the Pioneers' John Trupin put together a solid compete game effort as he allowed just two runs and struck out two to give Lewis & Clark the 5-2 victory.
 
Walker Olis (So., Burlington, Wash.) led Pacific with four hits on the afternoon, including a 3 for 6 perfomance in the opener with three RBIs and three game-tying hits.  Ben Beck and Bradley Lezack each had four hits to pace the Pioneers.
 
With the split, Pacific improved to 4-9 overall, 1-7 NWC.  Lewis & Clark improved to 5-7-1, 2-3-1 NWC.
 
GAME 1: PACIFIC 9, LEWIS & CLARK 8
After Lewis & Clark opened scoring with a run in the second, the Boxers manufactured a pair of runs in the fourth.  Kyle Treadway (Jr., Phoenix, Ore.) drew a leadoff walk and scored on a wild pitch and Dan Jaffe (Sr., Las Vegas, Nev.) bunted a single down the left field line to score Olis.
 
The Pioneers then turned a Pacific error into three runs in the fifth.  Lezack singled on a bunt, Eric Hyun followed with a walk and both runners advanced 90 feet on a wild pitch.  Andrew Traver then reached on an error, which allowed Lezack to score and Andrew Cathcart followed with a two-run double to left center field.  L&C made it a 6-2 lead in the sixth on a two-run triple by Lezack.
 
Pacific tied the game with a four-run fourth inning.  Nick Garrett (So., San Diego, Calif.) began the rally with a ground out that scored Jaffe and Donnie Bradley (Jr., Beaverton, Ore.) followed with a two-run single to right field.  Two batters later, Olis hit the first of his game-tying runs with a single to center that scored Bradley.
 
Lewis & Clark took the lead back in the eighth on Beck's RBI single through the left side.  The Boxers were down to their final out in the bottom of the ninth when Olis had his second game-tying hit, a triple to right center field that scored pinch-runner Matt Hopp (Jr., Portland, Ore.).
 
The two teams traded runs in the 11th inning before both teams went without scoring for another five innings.  Sohn started the winning 17th inning with a leadoff walk.  He advanced to second on Bradley's sacrifice bunt and to third on Josh Keithly's (Fr., Mission Viejo, Calif.) ground out.  After L&C reliever Stein Ratzlaff intentionally walked Olis, he threw a wild pitch that went to the backstop, allowing Sohn home for the winning run.
 
Nathan Suyematsu (So., Tualatin, Ore.) earned his first win of the season in a tremendous long relief effort, allowing just two walks and striking out four in 6.1 innings.  Before coming to the mound, Suyematsu played the first 10.2 innings at second base.  Kyle Tibbett took the loss for Lewis & Clark, allowing the one run and two walks in 1.1 innings as the Pioneers used six pitchers in the contest.
 
Olis led Pacific with his 3 for 6 performance while Jaffe finished 2 for 7.  Beck. Lezack, Traver and Cathcart all had two hits each for the Pioneers.
 
GAME 2: LEWIS & CLARK 5, PACIFIC 2
Lewis & Clark starter Trupin kept the Boxers off balance for much of the second game, keeping the Boxers off the board for the first six innings of the contest.
 
The Pioneers opened scoring with one run in the third as Cathcart singled to center field and scored on a double by Lezack.  L&C then added two runs in the fourth on a double down the left field line by Tommy Massari and in infield single by Cathcart.
 
Pacific cut the lead to 3-1 in the seventh when Hopp singled with two outs and scored on Duerr's single to right field.  The Pioneers added to their cushion in the top of the ninth on a pair of RBI singles by Beck and Lezack.  Pacific took one run back in the home half of the ninth when Duerr's fielder's choice scored Olis.
 
Trupin improved to 3-1 on the season by allowing two runs on seven hits with one walk and two strikeouts in the complete game effort.  Colin McCusker (Jr., Olympia, Wash.) took the loss for Pacific, dropping to 1-1 on the season.  He allowed three runs on eight hits with a walk and three strikeouts in seven innings of work.  Cathcart led L&C at the plate, going 3 for 3.  Duerr's 2 for 4 effort led the Boxers.
 
The two teams will complete their three-game series on Sunday beginning at noon.
