Jacob
Coners set the Panthers' table in the fourth
inning with a single that put Old Westbury in the hit
column. Nick
Yipfollowed with a single and John
Angelino broke the scoring ice with a two-run
double to give Old Westbury its first lead of the game. Bates
answered in the fifth with a Jeff Gunn leadoff single, and two
batters later, Brenden Fox lifted a sacrifice fly out to left,
scoring Gunn to slice Old Westbury's lead in half.
Bates then scored four runs on four hits in the seventh
inning to jump ahead, 5-2. Gunn stroked an RBI single to
start the seventh inning scoring and four batters later scored when
Samuel Berry was hit by starter Frank
DiMaria's pitch with the bases loaded. The
next batter Griff Tewksbury, delivered a two-run single to give
Bates a three run lead.
Old Westbury threatened in the seventh with the bases
loaded, but failed to deliver as Yip grounded to a force out at
second to end the inning. Bates tacked on solo runs in the
next two innings off reliever James
Wipperman to earn the 7-2 victory.
Coners (2-4) extended his hitting streak to 13 games with
his fourth multi-hit performance of the season as Angelino (2-4, 2
RBI) also went for a pair of hits.
Gunn (3-4, 2 R, RBI) produced three hits on the day to lead
the way for two other Bobcats with multi-hit
performances.
DiMaria (0-2) was dealt the loss after surrendering five
runs on nine hits while striking out five in 6.2 innings of
work.
Dean Bonneau (2-0) tossed three innings scoreless innings in
relief of starter Will Levangie to grab Bates'
