Auburndale, Fla. – The Trinity College baseball team found themselves in an early hole and could not get out, as the Endicott College Gulls took a 5-2 win over the Bantams in RussMatt Central Florida Invitational action at Lake Myrtle Park this afternoon. Trinity drops to 2-3 overall with their third straight loss, and the Gulls improve to 2-0.

Endicott touched Trinity junior southpaw starter Rob Gau in the first inning, plating two runs on two hits and two walks, before adding another tally in the second inning to go up 3-0. The Gulls knocked Gau from the game in the third inning after a hit batter and a walk, for consecutive innings. In the top of the fourth, Trinity struck quick with a single by junior 3B Dan Pigeon and a line drive double by classmate Bryan Wolfe, followed by a sacrifice fly by sophomore C Scott Cullinane. The inning ended on a deep fly to the warning track by rookie DH Richard Spencer.

Endicott starter, southpaw Luke Morse, sailed right along, spreading out three hits and striking out five in 7.2 innings of work. With two outs in the eighth, a Scott Huley bloop hit down the left field line was enough to knock Morse out of the game. Pigeon made it hurt with a line drive shot to left center, good for a double that plated Huley from first and brought the score to 5-2. Junior Carson Kenney picked up a one-out, pinch-hit single to try and get something going for the Bantams in the ninth. Trinity sophomore OF Mackenze Genauer roped an opposite-field, line-drive double to bring the tying run to the plate, but Endicott closer Connor McGlaughlin ended the game with a strikeout.

Chris Gallic was effective in relief for the Bantams, going five innings and allowing just one earned run. Pigeon turned in another strong performance, both defensively and offensively, going 2-2 with an RBI double and a walk, while making no errors and several standout plays at the hot corner.
