Thomas More Defeats Wilmington, 13-3, in Home Opener

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The Thomas More College baseball team scored 10 runs in the first inning as it defeated Wilmington College, 13-3, today (Tuesday, March 18, 2014) in its home opener at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

With the win, the Saints improve to 3-5 and with the loss, the Quakers fall to 0-11.

The Saints took control of the game early as they scored 10 runs on eight hits and three errors in the first inning. Thomas More would then add a run in the fifth and two in the eighth, while holding the Quakers to a run in the sixth and two in the ninth for the 13-3 win.

Sophomore pitcher Logan Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) pitched four shutout innings and gave up only three hits, while striking out four batters to earn the win. Freshman Addison Brown (Erlanger, Ky./Lloyd Memorial) pitched two innings and gave up one run on two hits and struck out one, sophomore Zak Orlemann (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) pitched an hitless inning, freshman Michael Luebbe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) pitched an inning and gave up one hit and freshman Alex Mezcua (Mason, Ohio/Mason) pitched an inning and gave up two runs (one earned).

Seven Saints had multiple hits in the game led by junior first baseman Craig Hyson (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) was three-for-five with a run batted-in and a run scored. Junior left fielder Nick Connor (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was two-for-four with a triple and two runs scored, senior right fielder Cody Makin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was two-for-five with two RBI and two runs scored, senior third baseman Travis Miller (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) was two-for-four with a home run, three RBI and a run scored, sophomore designated hitter Donovan Pogue (Sharonville, Ohio/St. Xavier) was two-for-three with a double, a RBI and a runs scored, sophomore catcher Frank Rosenacker (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was two-for-five with a double, a RBI and a run scored and senior second baseman Tyler Graber (Plain City, Ohio/Jonathan Alder) was two-for-four with two RBI and a run scored.

Thomas More returns to the diamond on Wednesday (March 19) when it hosts Hanover College at 4 p.m. at Thomas More Field.
