Fischetti's Four RBI Lead Kean Past DeSales, 6-2

More news about: Kean

Union, N.J. (3/18/14) – Junior Anthony Fischetti laced a bases-loaded triple to give Kean University the lead for good as the Cougars topped DeSales University by the final of 6-2 Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.

Fischetti finished with four RBI as #3/4 Kean improved to 12-2 on the season.  DeSales dropped to 1-7 this spring, despite outhitting the Cougars, 12-6.  All 12 hits for the Bulldogs were singles.

Both teams' traded single runs in their first at-bats as DeSales used a two out single by Mark Westdyk to drive in the game's first run.  The Cougars answered right back as senior Tyler Smarslok lined a one out triple into the gap.  He would score on a groundout from sophomore Ryan Kelley

The Bulldogs took the lead again in their half of the fourth as Drew Borger tallied a two out RBI single, giving DeSales a 2-1 lead.  That would be the last run the Cougars would give up as Kean took the lead for good in the bottom of the same inning, plating four runs.  With no outs and the bases loaded, Fischetti lined a ball down the right field line that found the corner giving Kean a 4-2 lead.  One batter later, catcher D.J. Ross made it 5-2 with an RBI groundout.

The Cougars added insurance in the bottom of the eighth as Fischetti recorded his fourth RBI of the day on a fielder's choice.

Junior Mike Daley picked up his third win of the season.  Daley (3-0) allowed 11 hits (all singles) and two runs in seven innings of work.  He walked two and fanned five as he worked around those singles.  Rookie Richie Ferguson earned his first collegiate save as he faced the minimum in two innings on the mound.

Offensively, leadoff hitter Danny Licamara led the Bulldogs with a 4-for-5 afternoon.  Senior Joe O'Connor helped the offense for Kean as he was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two walks.

Kean heads to the road for their first east coast road game on Wednesday when they travel to Alvernia University for a 3 p.m. first-pitch.
