OBERLIN -- A strong offensive performance in Game 1 and dominant pitching by five pitchers in Game 2 led the Ohio Northern baseball team to a double header sweep over Oberlin on Tuesday at Dill Field.
The Polar Bears have now won seven of their last eight games and move to 8-3 on the season. The Yeomen fall to 0-2.
Northern captured the first game 16-11, getting three hits apiece from senior Matt Magni, junior Jack LaMarca, sophomoreNick Eltzroth and sophomore Clay Small.
Small finished the game with a career-high four RBI's and junior Dan Belliveauadded three more.
ONU jumped on the board in the second inning, scoring five runs.
Sophomore Nick Guitar led off the inning with a walk and came around to score on a RBI triple by Magni.
Eltzorth followed with a walk and Small laced a single, scoring Magni.
After a sac bunt, junior Brady Foley hit a double to left that scored both Eltzroth and Small and made it 4-0 in favor of the Polar Bears.
Sophomore Andy Lubonovic closed out the scoring in the inning with a RBI single, driving in Foley.
The Polar Bears expanded the lead in the third inning, plating a season-high eight runs in the frame.
Small drove in three runs in the inning and Belliveau and LaMarca each recorded RBI singles.
Lubonovic drove in a run on an error and Guitar also hit a sac fly, giving ONU a 13-0 lead.
Oberlin would chip away, scoring two runs in the third, seven in the fourth and one in the fifth, trimming Northern's advantage to 13-10.
The Polar Bears scored three more in the sixth on a RBI groundout from sophomore Cody Meyer and a two run single by Belliveau, to make the score 16-10 and put the game away.
Sophomore Zach Maier picked up his second win of the season, giving up two earned runs in four innings of work.
In the second game, five ONU pitchers combined to give up just four hits in a 1-0 victory.
The Polar Bears scored the lone run of the game in the second inning.
Belliveau led off with a triple and scored two batters later on a RBI groundout by Eltzroth.
Sophomore Alex Crabtree picked up his first win of the season, firing two scoreless innings in relief.
Sophomore Ben Glischinski closed out the game with two scoreless innings, for his first career save.
Belliveau paced Northern, going 2-for-3 in the game.
Ohio Northern will return to action on Saturday, when it opens up OAC play home with a double header against Wilmington, beginning at 1 pm. The Polar Bears will also celebrate Senior Day in between the games.
