CARLISLE, Pa. – A 4-1 lead for the Elizabethtown baseball team slipped away over the late innings Tuesday when Dickinson rallied for two in the bottom of the ninth, winning 5-4 on a walk-off balk.
Dylan Manning held the Red Devils to just two hits over six innings, striking out four along the way. Although the sophomore battled control issues at times throughout his start on a cold and blustery afternoon, he found his a way to work out of trouble and keep his team ahead.
The Blue Jays (6-4) did all their damage in a four-run second inning. Aaron Rahn's one-out single and a walk to Colton King put Vaclav Hasik up with two out and two on.
Hasik singled home Rahn. Dickinson starter Jimmy Robertson kept the inning alive by walking Kyle Fackler and an error by shortstop Steven Haynes allowed King to score the visitors' second run. Kyle Gable doubled the lead with a two-run single.
Haynes would later attone for his error with a two-run double off freshman Kevin Elwell in the seventh to bring the Red Devils (11-1) back within 4-3.
Dickinson trailed by the same score heading into their final at-bats but Mike Adams started the inning with a single in his only plate appearance, and Mitch Helmandollar reached on a fielder's choice that failed to record an out.
Ryan Dolan, who scored three of the hosts five runs, then singled in Foote to tie the game at four.
Gable temporarily saved the game for E-town, fielding Joseph Tursi's sharply hit grounder and throwing home to get Helmandollar for the second out.
Elwell was issued a balk with Matt Primavera at the dish, allowing Dolan to trot home from third with the winning run.
Hasik's 2-for-4 day led Elizabethtown, which had seven hits in its first action since March 7. The Jays' last four scheduled games have all been postponed due to winter's inability to move along for good. Gable, King and Rahn had a hit each, along with Alex Holbert and Sean Jones.
Dolan paced Dickinson with two hits in three at-bats, while Matt Cowell relieved Robertson effectively with three strikeouts and a hit in 3.2 innings to earn the win.
Elizabethtown will try to makeup a conference game against Arcadia in Glenside tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
