San Antonio, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team grabbed a ninth-inning lead on the nation's top-ranked team, but could not hold on in a 5-4, 12-inning loss to Trinity University Tuesday night in San Antonio. UMHB falls to 13-3 on the season with the defeat and has its six-game winning streak snapped. The Tigers, ranked #1 in the country by D3baseball.com, improve to 19-1 on the year with the victory.

Trinity grabbed a 1-0 lead on a walk, two stolen bases and an RBI groundout in the bottom of the first inning. The Tigers added a run on Christian Muscarello's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third. The Cru closed to 2-1 when Justin Dingman and Cole Hill had back-to-back singles with one out in the top of the seventh. Both runners moved up on a wild pitch and another wild pitch allowed Dingman to score for UMHB. Trinity had a chance to stretch the lead to 3-0, but Will Stafford threw Jeremy Wolf out at home plate to complete a double-play and end the seventh inning. The Cru would put the tying and go-ahead runs on with back-to-back singles from Cole Hill and Will Stafford with one out in the top of the ninth. Tripp Reeves then plated both runs with a ringing double off the right-field wall to give UMHB a 3-2 lead. Austin Singer's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth tied it up at 3-3 after a one-out throwing error moved the tying run to third base. Aaron Barteau then ended the inning with a strikeout to send the game to extras. The Cru put a runner at third with one out in the top of the tenth, but a double-play ended the threat. UMHB took a 4-3 lead in the top of the 12^th when Rob Loewe scored just ahead of the throw on Alex Smith's single. The Cru had a chance to add some insurance, but left the bases loaded in the frame. Chris Bianchi tied the game at four when he blasted a solo home run on the first pitch of the bottom of the 12^th. Cameron Moore followed with a single and moved up on a sacrifice bunt. Back-to-back intentional walks loaded the bases for the Tigers. Pat Hirschberg ripped a grounder that Smith made a beautiful diving play on, but his throw to the plate was high as Moore scored the game-winning run.

Danny Horstman took the loss for UMHB to drop to 1-1 on the season. Nicolas Griffith earned the win for Trinity to move to 1-0. Reeves led the Cru with three hits and Hill and Stafford added two hits apiece. Three different players had two hits for the Tigers, who took advantage of five UMHB errors in the game.

UMHB will now return home to host University of the Ozarks for a three-game American Southwest Conference series this weekend. The two teams will play a 3:00 PM doubleheader on Friday before closing out the series with a 1:00 PM single game on Saturday at Red Murff Field.
