Ramapo splits with Allegheny

Winter Haven, FL: The Ramapo College baseball team split a double header today with Allegheny College at Chain of Lakes field. The Roadrunners dropped the first game, 3-0 before bouncing back to take game two, 3-2.

The Roadrunners improve to 7-3 overall while Allegheny now stands at 8-4 overall. Ramapo returns to action tomorrow morning at 10am in their final game of the RussMatt Invitational against Benedictine University. Live stats link can be found here.

In game one, Allegheny scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and held Ramapo in the top of the seventh to take game one. A two RBI single from Mike Pezzone scored two runs for the Gators to take a, 2-0, lead before the final run crossed the plate on a wild pitch, 3-0. The Gators defense held the Roadrunners in the top of the 7th inning for the shutout win.

Walker Larson (1-1) went the distance for Ramapo, he struck out five and walked two while scattering three hits. The game was a pitcher's dual as each team could only collect three hits a piece. Joe Venturino collected two hits while Jose Garcia recorded the other for the Roadrunners.

In game two, Allegheny scored one run in the third inning before Ramapo scored three runs in the fifth inning to take a 3-1 lead.

In the fifth, Garrett Luna led off with a double before pinch hitter Scott Peschiani laced a single through the left side of the infield, scoring Luna. Ian Osterman then stepped to the plate in a pinch hit appearance and cracked a two-run home run over the right field wall on a 1-2 count, giving Ramapo the 3-1 lead.

The Gators scored one run in the seventh, their final at-bat, before the Roadrunners got out of the jam for the, 3-2 win. Starting pitcher Tom Portesy recorded a strike out looking to end the game. Portesy struck out five and walked one, while he surrendered only three hits in the game.

Scott Shields, Ryan Levine, Peschiani, Osterman all collected one hit a piece for Ramapo while Luna went 2-3 with one run scored.
