The Baruch College Bearcats on Sunday swept the Blue Knights from Mount St. Mary College at the SUNY-Old Westbury baseball complex in Old Westbury, New York.

The Bearcats won the opener, 3-2, thanks to a walk-off RBI single by Richard Valerio in extra innings (8) to plate Dan Daley for the winning run.

Paul Perez was dominant again on the mound to earn his second win with a complete game (8IP, 6H, 0ER, 0BB, 7K) effort.

Nicholas Pomo-Roman batted 2-for-3, with two singles, one run and a stolen base. Matthew Ballone and Daley also finished with two hits each.

Valerio also made a diving catch in the third inning to keep several runs from scoring.

In the second game, the Bearcats exploded with three runs in the fourth and five runs in the fifth inning for an 8-0 lead.

The Blue Knights came back by scoring three runs in the sixth inning, but Andrew Lizardi shut them down by recording his first complete game (7IP, 5H, 2ER, 2BB, 3K) to improve to 1-1 on the season.

John Yuksekol and Pomo-Roman each had two hits and scored twice. Philip Loprete also scored twice as the Bearcats swept a doubleheader against a non-conference opponent that competes in the Skyline Conference.

Pending weather, the baseball team will return to action on Tuesday, March 25 against the College of Mount St. Vincent. First pitch at the Manhattan College Baseball Complex at Van Cortlandt Park will start at 4:00 pm.
