Louisiana College junior pitcher Brand Bignar, in his first career start with the Wildcats, tossed eight innings, gave up just three hits, and struck out six as the Wildcats took game three from the Crusaders 3-1 to win a critical ASC series.

With Bignar holding the Crusader's offense in check throughout, the Wildcat bats were given enough time to take their first lead in the bottom of the third inning, when first baseman Mark Riendeau drove in left fielder Kade Van Norman on an RBI single to center after Van Norman led off the inning by reaching on an error.

The Wildcats then tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the seventh when third baseman Nic Cole drove in shortstop Taylor Beavers on an RBI groundout to third base.

Van Norman then followed Cole with an RBI single down the left field line that brought Cary Myers around to make the score 3-0.

The Crusaders would collect their first hit of the game off of Bignar with one out in the top of the eighth inning when third baseman Cole Hill hit a single just over the head of Beavers at shortstop to break up the no-hit bid.

Bignar did not allow a UMHB base runner to reach third base until the eighth inning and finished the day with eight innings pitched, one earned run, three hits, six strikeouts, and just one walk to earn his first win of the season.

Sophomore left hander Luke Pinkard picked up the save, his first of the year, as he came on in relief of Bignar in the ninth to close things out.

The Wildcats moved to 8-14 overall with the win and 7-11 in ASC play. They will take on LSU-Alexandria on Tuesday in a doubleheader before heading to Clarksville, AR next Friday for a weekend conference series.
