ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Junior right-hander Kristopher Davis got ahead early in coutns and took advantage of an eager Albright lineup Tuesday afternoon at Kevin Scott Boyd Stadium. Davis fired a complete game, three-hit shutout in leading the Blue Jays to a 3-0 Commonwealth Conference victory.
Davis cruised through the first three innings, retiring nine of the first 10 batters he faced. He didn't allow a hit until Gabe Santone's two-out single in the fourth, kept the Lions (4-7, 2-5 CC) without an extra base hit and retired the side in order in the first, second, fifth, eighth and ninth innings.
Elizabethtown took a 1-0 lead on Kyle Gable's RBI single down the left field line in the bottom of the third. Frank Ragozzino raced around to score before Gable was nailed at second for the final out of the inning while trying to leg out a double.
Davis' opposite, Jared Neiheiser, worked efficiently into the sixth as well. Neiheiser did not issue a free pass, though the Blue Jays (9-8, 3-4 CC) were able to get seven hits off of him.
Still up 1-0, Tyler Weary turned on a 1-2 pitch and pulled it into the left field corner for a two-run double. Kyle Fackler and Gable scored on the rip, accounting for Weary's seventh and eight runs batted in this season.
Gable delivered a team-best two hits Tuesday, while Fackler and Ragozzino each added a hit and a run.
Davis struck out two and walked two in his first career shutout and second career complete game. The Doylestown native last went the distance March 27, 2013, in a 4-2, nine-inning win at Dickinson.
Elizabethtown faces conference power Alvernia for three this weekend, beginning Friday with a single game in Reading. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
