Union, N.J. (4/1/14) – Sophomore Michael Kendall collected two RBI and classmate Ryan Reitmeyer was 3-for-3 as the Kean University baseball team swam past the College of Staten Island by the final of 6-1 Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.

With the win Kean improves to 16-4 while CSI drops to 7-6 this spring.

It took some time for both offenses to get going as Kean scratched across the first run of the game in their half of the fifth as Reitemeyer started things off with a one out double down the line.  Designated hitter Brock Podgurski then lined a single up the middle to put runners at the corners.  Kendall made it 1-0 after lofting a sacrifice fly.

The Dolphins tied things up in their next at-bat as Phil Ciprello found the gap with a two out single to drive home Chris Ramanauskas.

The Cougars took the lead for good in the bottom of the same inning as senior Tyler Smarslok led off the frame with a double.  Small ball moved him to third and after a walk to junior Andy Lopez, sophomore Ryan Kelley delivered with an RBI single.

Kean added insurance in the seventh with four runs off five hits.  Highlighting the inning was an RBI double from Kendall and RBI singles from Smarslok, Lopez, and Matt Meleo.

Relief pitcher Chris Amato (1-1) earned his first win of the year as he tossed two and a third innings allowing no runs and four hits.  The Cougars used four pitchers in today's outing as Anthony Fischetti, Shane Alvarez and Vinny Zanfordino all found time on the mound.  In total the group allowed eight hits and five walks.

Starter Josh Bernstein suffered the loss for CSI.  He allowed five runs, all earned, in six and two thirds innings.

Kean heads back into NJAC play on Thursday when they travel to Montclair State University for a 3:30 p.m. matchup.
