Ursinus wins CC opener over Muhlenberg, 5-1

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus College freshman left handed pitcher Seth Regensburg allowed just one hit through eight innings of baseball helping to lead the Bears (8-6, 1-0 Centennial) to a 5-1 win over Muhlenberg (7-9, 0-2 Centennial) Tuesday afternoon.

Regenburg allowed just one single over the first eight, then with one out allowed back-to-back doubles in improving to 3-1 on the season. He struck out five and walked one.

Ursinus, who won its Centennial opener for the first time since 2011, pounded out 11 hits on the day with five of them being extra-base hits. Freshman designated hitter Austin Feuerman, sophomore first baseman Chris Jablonski, freshman left fielder Jose Colon and sophomore shortstop Devyn Kerr each had two hits on the day.

Jablonski finished with two RBI on a centerfield homerun in the sixth that scored Feuerman.

Ursinus took a 1-0 lead in the third when senior right fielder Josh Schnell triple to deep right, then scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Feuerman. Kerr would give the Bears a 2-0 lead in the fourth when he homered to center off of Mule starter junior Matthew Lawsky. Lawsky, who fell to 2-3, struck out three and walked five in six innings of work.

In the fifth, Colon drove in Jablonski for a 3-0 lead, followed by Jablonski's home run in the sixth accounting for the final two runs.

Muhlenberg scored its lone run in the ninth when senior third baseman John Scuderi doubled to left scoring junior centerfielder Jimmy Cody. Cody, Scuderi and junior right fielder Nick Plinio all had hits for the Mules.

Ursinus and Muhlenberg will finish the series on Friday, when the Bears travel to Allentown. Ursinus, in the meantime, steps out of conference on Thursday to face Maine-Presque Isle.
