Ohio Northern splits double header with John Carroll

ADA -- Senior Daniel Rodriguez collected three hits and sophomore Ben Glischinski gave up two hits in seven innings of work, as the Ohio Northern baseball team split a double header with OAC leader John Carroll on Sunday afternoon at Wander Field.

The Blue Streaks (12-7, 5-1) captured the first game 6-2, but Northern (16-5, 4-2) won Game 2 by a 3-1 score.

In the second game, Glischinski picked up his second win of the season, striking out five batters.

Rodriguez had three hits and a RBI, while senior Tyler Deitering, junior Dan Belliveau and sophomore Nick Guitar each recorded two hits.

JCU jumped on the board first on a RBI groundout in the first inning.

The Polar Bears tied the game in the fourth, when Rodriguez singled to center and a error by JCU's centerfielder allowed Belliveau to score and advanced Rodriguez to second.

Northern plated two more runs in the sixth, to take the lead 3-1.

Belliveau drilled a 1-out triple to center and Rodriguez followed with a single.

Rodriguez moved to second on a single by Guitar and sophomore Reed Allen laced a single a few batters later to score Rodriguez and make it 3-1.

Sophomore Alex Crabtree earned his second save of the season by pitching the final two innings.

In Game 1, Belliveau got ONU on the board first with a 2-run homer to right center.

It was his team leading fifth of the season. He has also now hit in 22 straight games, dating back to last season.

The Blue Streaks would scores single runs in the second, third and fourth and score three more times in the fifth to grab the 6-2 win.

Senior Chad Smith pitched five scoreless innings in relief for Northern, striking out four batters.

Ohio Northern will return to action on Wednesday, when it travels to Otterbein for a double header at 1 pm.
