Scranton, PA – The USMMA baseball team poured on 14 runs Tuesday afternoon en route to a Landmark Conference victory at Scranton.  Jake Martin (San Diego, CA) and Danny Collins (Sleepy Hollow, NY) both registered three RBIs while Cameron Stadele (Alpharetta, GA) launched his second homerun of 2014.  Nathan Slusarczyk (Woodbury, NJ) picked up the win on the mound, pitching three scoreless innings of relief and allowing just two base runners.

U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (12-7-1, 3-4 Landmark) jumped on the Royals early, hanging up five runs in the top of the first.  Warren Hartmann (Wyckoff, NJ) plated the first run of the game with a RBI single as the senior went 3-of-5 with two runs scored and a stolen base..  Martin and Jacob Wood (Richmond, VA) followed with two-RBI singles of their own to complete the five-run frame.  USMMA tacked on one more run in the top of the second on the strength of a RBI single off the bat of Hartmann.

Scranton (7-8, 2-4 Landmark) would notch the next three runs of the game with a Justin Klingman sacrifice fly followed by solo homeruns from both Zach Dignam and Michael Gaeta.  USMMA answered by putting up four runs in the top of the fourth.  Collins, Stadele, Martin, and Richard Kernan (Blythewood, SC) all registered RBI hits as the Mariners grabbed a 10-3 edge.   Stadele's solo shot in the top of the sixth pushed the lead to 11-3.

USMMA answered two runs from the home team in the bottom of the eighth with three runs in the top of the ninth.  Andrew MacKinnon (Buffalo, NY) lifted a sacrifice fly to make it 12-3 and Collins accounted for the final two markers of the day with a two-run single.  Collins finished the day 3-of-6 at the plate while the Mariners were a perfect 4-of-4 on stolen base attempts.  Jeff Suciu (Zanesville, OH) struck out two batters in a 1-2-3 ninth to seal the 14-5 decision for USMMA.

The Mariners return to action this weekend for a three-game set against Moravian.
