UT Dallas Routs Louisiana College, 12-1, To Open Final ASC Road Series

PINEVILLE, LA (04.17.14) - The UT Dallas baseball team earned its seventh straight win Thursday night as the Comets kicked off its three-game American Southwest Conference series at Louisiana College with a 12-1 win.

The Comets (now 20-10, 16-8 ASC) locked up its 13th straight 20-win season as they pounded out 13 hits in the series opener with the Wildcats. The two teams will close the series with a 12 p.m. doubleheader Friday.

After four scoreless frames, the Comets opened the scoring in the top of the 5th with back-to-back bases-loaded walks by Matt Olszewski and Pierce Fly to grab a 2-0 lead. That would be all the offense needed by UTD starter Tyler Dauer (6-1), who scattered nine hits in 7.1 innings of work with six strikeouts.

Brandon George then led off the with a double down the left-field line and quickly came home on a single by Brandon Clounch, giving UTD a 3-0 advantage. Four batters later, Fly picked up his second RBI of the game with a double, scoring Clounch. After a scoreless 7th, the Comets added five runs on four hits and an LC error to extended their lead to 9-0. With the bases loaded and no outs in the 7th, Tanner Gandy plated Olszewski with a fielder's choice groundout. Nick Marti followed Gandy's ground ball with a bunt single, bring home Fly. Two batters later, George capped the inning with a three-run homer, his second of the season.

The Comets added a two-run double by Marti followed by the Wildcats' fourth error of the game, allowing Jimmy Norris score from third on a two-out grounder by George to the LC shortstop. The Wildcats avoided the shutout with a sacrifice fly by Kyle Feazell in the bottom of the 9th.

Marti finished the game 3-for-6 with three RBI as he led five Comets who posted multi-hit games. Clounch was 2-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored.
