FARMINGDALE, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury baseball team split a Skyline Conference Sunday road doubleheader with the Farmingdale State Rams from Rams Field. Farmingdale State took the opener with a 6-5 final and Old Westbury bounced back to post a 5-4 decision in extra innings. The split moved Old Westbury (11-17) to 9-4 in conference play while sending the Rams (16-9) to 7-4.
Old Westbury jumped out to an early game one lead when Byron White stroked a two-run single to put the Panthers up 2-0 at the end of the first inning.
Jonathan Pagan made it a 3-0 game in the fifth by scoring Jacob Coners off a two-out single.
Farmingdale State answered with four runs on three hits in the fifth off Panther starter Arismendy Nunez. Anthony Alvino's two-run single tied the game at three before Ryan Levine's RBI single gave the Rams a 4-3 lead.
Old Westbury second baseman Joey Walsh committed a costly error in the sixth that allowed Sullivan to score the unearned run to give the Rams a 5-3 lead.
The Panthers rallied in the ninth and delivered two runs off John Angelino's two-run double to knot the game at five all.
Farmingdale State answered in the bottom of the ninth with a leadoff Daniel Paccione triple. After two intentional walks to load the bases, the Panthers gunned pinch runner Dominick Bacchi at home plate. Tom Rydzewski then scored on an error by third baseman Michael Cardino to cross the plate for the game-winning run.
Nunez dealt seven innings on the mound, striking out eight and was charged with five runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks. Reliever Alex DiSanto (0-3) recorded two outs and allowed an unearned run to take Old Westbury's loss.
Coners (2-5, 2 R), Nick Yip (3-4, 2 R, 2B), Angelino (2-5, 2 RBI, 2B) and White (2-5, 2 RBI) each registered two hits to lead the Panthers.
Alvino (2-3, 2 RBI, 2B, SB), Rydewski (2-4, R, 3B) and Sullivan (2-3, 2 R, SB) led the way for Farmingdale State with multi-hit games.
Farmingdale State starter Alex Weingarten did not factor into the decision after throwing 8.2 innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on 10 hits and one walk.
Reliever Daniel Tierney (3-2) retired one batter to escape out of a bases loaded jam in the ninth to earn the victory.
Both teams stranded 10 runners in the opener while Farmingdale State held a 6-0 advantage in stolen bases.
In the finale, Old Westbury broke the scoring ice in the third when an error by second baseman Rydzewski allowed Brandon Steinto score for a 1-0 lead. Farmingdale State in the home half of the third with a Michael Marino RBI triple.
Pagan clubbed a three-run home run in the sixth to put the Panthers up 4-1. His homer was the third of the season and fifth career.
Marino struck again with an RBI double in the seventh and two batters later, Rydzewski came through with a two-run single off starter Frank DiMaria to send the game into extra innings.
Old Westbury threatened in the eighth with Pagan's two-out triple. Following an intentional walk to Angelino, Robinson Hernandezstruck out to strand two Panthers.

Tommy Ziegen and Jesse Matos garnered walks to load the bases for Coners, who lifted a sacrifice fly out to right field to score Stein for the game-winner. Closer Alex DiSanto (1-3) earned the win, working 2.1 innings in relief of DiMaria.
