Errors Cost USMMA in Rubber Game vs. Catholic

Washington, DC – The USMMA baseball team committed five errors Sunday afternoon in an 8-2 loss in the rubber game of a three-game series against Catholic.  Andrew MacKinnon (Buffalo, NY) and Cameron Stadele (Alpharetta, GA) were both 2-of-4 with one RBI at the plate.  Robin Mowatt tossed eight innings for the home team and allowed just two earns, neither of which were earned.

U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (16-11-1, 7-8 Landmark) struck in the top of the first as Stadele deposited a RBI single into right field.  The Cardinals leveled it at 1-1 in the bottom of the third with help of a two-out error on the Mariner infield.  CUA pushed its advantage to 3-1 in the fourth with a RBI single as well as a bases loaded hit by pitch.  MacKinnon brought the Mariners back to within one at 3-2 in the fifth with a two-out RBI single.

Catholic (18-15, 8-6 Landmark) immediately answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.  Marc Hanna added insurance runs with RBI hits in the sixth and eighth while Paul Burmester also drove in a run in the eighth as the Cardinals built an 8-2 cushion.  The Mariners registered 11 hits in the game but were unable to get any more runs in the series finale.

The USMMA baseball team returns to the field Wednesday for a non-conference 4:00 PM clash at Mount Saint Vincent.
