MOOSIC, Pa. – The University of Scranton baseball team could not come up with the big hit all night on Monday, dropping a doubleheader to Merchant Marine Academy, 10-3 and 5-4 in nine innings, at PNC Field.

The Royals (8-12, 3-8 Landmark) had a 4-3 lead in the seventh inning of the second game, but Merchant Marine (15-9-1, 6-6 Landmark) scored a run in the seventh and again in the ninth to earn the sweep.

Sophomore outfielder Nick Papillo (Germantown, Md./St. John's College H.S.) had a go-ahead RBI single in the bottom of the sixth after fellow sophomore outfielder Brian Healy (Middletown, N.J./Middletown South) had tied the game in the fourth with a bases-loaded walk.

Junior first baseman Ross Danzig (Clarks Green, Pa./Abington Heights/Blair Academy, N.J.) added a two-run single in the first inning. Junior righty Michael Villegas (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) took the loss despite allowing two runs, one earned on three hits in 4 1/3 innings of relief.

In the opener, the Royals fell behind 5-0 after three and a half innings and managed just three hits in the game. Junior shortstop Justin Klingman (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) singled and scored, and seniors Matt Maghini (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) and Michael Gaeta (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) and junior Michael Umerich (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) each had RBIs.

Scranton is back in action on Wednesday, April 16, when it travels to LaPlume, Pa. to take on Keystone College at 4 p.m.
