Late Inning Rally Lifts Colonels Past Royals, 7-6, Thursday Afternoon

EDWARDSVILLE, Pa.—Wilkes University scored twice in both the seventh and eighth innings to pull out a 7-6 victory over The University of Scranton in non-conference baseball action Thursday afternoon at Artillery Park.

Freshman James Brown (Covington, Pa./North Pocono) had four hits, including an RBI single in the seventh, and sophomore Ryan Herbst (East Islip, NY/St. John the Baptist) homered and drove in three runs for the Colonels, now 13-17.  Junior Stephen Ruch (Dallas, Pa./Holy Redeemer) added two hits and drove in the winning run for Wilkes, which pounded out 13 hits.

Sophomore Brian Healy (Middletown, NJ/Middletown South) led the Royals, now 9-16, with two hits and drove in three runs and sophomore Kyle Hamer (Germantown, Md./St. John's College High School) had two hits and drove in a run.

Healy drove in two runs during a four-run rally in the fourth inning as Scranton erased a 3-1 deficit to take a 5-3 lead.  The Royals added another run on an RBI single by Hamer in the seventh to extend their lead to 6-3 before Wilkes belted out four hits in the seventh and three more in the eighth to pull out the victory.

Scranton will return to action Friday afternoon to finish a three-game Landmark Conference series against Juniata beginning at 3:30 p.m. at Connell Park.  On Saturday, April 26, the Royals will meet Drew University in a Landmark Conference 7-inning doubleheader in Madison, New Jersey, beginning at 1:00 p.m
