Juniata Belts Out 17 Hits En Route To 15-7 Victory Over Scranton Friday Afternoon

SCRANTON, Pa.—Juniata College pounded out 17 hits en route to a 15-7 victory over The University of Scranton in the third game of a Landmark Conference baseball series Friday afternoon at Connell Park.

The Eagles jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the first inning and never looked back, improving to 9-27 overall and 2-13 in the conference.  Seven of their 17 hits went for extra-bases, including home runs by freshman Eric Grace (Hopewell, Pa./Northern Bedford), who finished with two hits and three RBI, and junior Nick Stubbs (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown).

Juniata also received three hits apiece from Derek Heath (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon), senior Brad Medellin (Lewisberry, Pa./Red Land), and sophomore Anthony Lombardo (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area).  Senior pitcher Mario DeYulis (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) picked up the win by limiting the Royals to three hits in five innings and reliever Chris Sinisi (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) went three innings and did not allow a run.

Seniors Eric Pizzico (Royersford, Pa./Spring Ford) and Ed Ravert (Havertown, Pa./Malvern) had two hits apiece for Scranton, which fell to 9-17 overall and 4-11 in the Landmark.

Grace hit a two-run home run as part of the Eagles' six-run rally in the first and Stubbs smacked a three-run home run during a four-run rally in the fifth to break it open.

The Royals will open a three-game Landmark Conference series against Drew University tomorrow afternoon beginning at 1:00 p.m.
