Thomas More Defeats Saint Vincent, 15-10, in a Slugfest

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - Senior third baseman Travis Miller (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) hit two home runs to help lead the Thomas More College baseball team to a 15-10, win over Saint Vincent College today (Thursday, May 1, 2014) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

With the win, the Saints improve to 18-16 overall and 12-9 in the PAC. With the loss, the Bearcats fall to 17-19 overall and 11-10 in the PAC.

Thomas More plated nine runs in the second, four in the third, on the fifth, one in the sixth, while holding Saint Vincent to three runs in the sixth, one in the seventh and six in the eighth for the 15-10 victory.

Miller led the team at the plate as he was three-for-four with two home runs, three runs batted-in and and two runs scored. Four other Saints had three hits in the game as senior second baseman/left fielder Jason Handley (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) was three-for-six with a home run, four RBI and two runs scored, junior first baseman Craig Hyson (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) was three-for-six with a double, three RBI and two runs scored, sophomore designated hitter Donovan Pogue (Sharonville, Ohio/St. Xavier) was three-for-four with a RBI and a run scored and junior catcher Brad Popham (Edgewood, Ky./Dixie Heights) was three-for-four with two runs scored.

Freshman pitcher Vic Newberry (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) earned the win on the mound as he pitched five shutout innings and gave up only four hits, while striking out four and walking one.

Thomas More returns to action on Saturday and Sunday (May 3 and 4) when it hosts Bethany College in a three-game Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) series at Thomas More Field. The teams will play a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m. and a single-game on Sunday at 12 p.m.
