Baruch Splits Doubleheader Versus John Jay (Lose 12-11, Win 9-6) on Senior Day

The Baruch College Bearcats went 1-1 in a conference doubleheader against John Jay College of Criminal Justice on Friday afternoon at the Kingsborough Community College baseball field in Brooklyn, New York.

Prior to the start of the game, the team honored seniors
Nicholas Pomo-Roman, John Yuksekol and Philip Lopretein front of family and friends.

The Bearcats dropped the opener by the score of 12-11, but showed lots of heart by overcoming an early 9-1 deficit to tie the game in the fourth inning.

The visiting Bloodhounds  (7-23, 4-6 CUNYAC) added a run in each of the fifth through seventh innings to jump ahead again, 12-9, but the Bearcats rallied in their final at-bat with two runs before falling short in the tough one-run loss.


John Yuksekolhad a solid senior day in the opening game by batting 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run scored. During the fourth inning when the Bearcats batted around to score eight runs, he had an RBI triple and two-run double in the inning.

Six different players had at least two hits.
Matthew Ballonekept things interesting in the team's last at-bat with a two-run triple to plate Zachary T. Uherand Eric Ulino.

In the second game, the Bearcats (11-21, 4-6 CUNYAC) bounced back with a 9-6 win to end a five-game losing streak.

They broke open a competitive 4-2 contest in their bottom half of the sixth inning with five runs on six hits to lead 9-2.
Angel Tejedahad a two run double and Yuksekol, Ballone and Dan Daleyeach had an RBI single in the inning.

John Jay did not go quietly and scored four runs in the seventh inning, but the Bearcats held on to secure the doubleheader split with the 9-6 win.


Paul Perez(6.1 IP, 10 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 5 K) earned his fifth win of the season.

The Bearcats will now await the remaining conference schedule to be played over the next few days to confirm their first game opponent in the CUNYAC Baseball Tournament that will begin on Wednesday, May 7 at the higher seed.  

The team will travel to play either the College of Staten Island or associate baseball member the Stevens Institute of Technology. The winner of the CUNYAC Tournament earns the automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
