Baruch Stays Alive in CUNYAC Tournament, Defeat John Jay (11-4)

The baseball team is alive in the CUNYAC baseball tournament after defeating the Bloodhounds of John Jay College, 11-4, in a double elimination game played on Thursday afternoon at MCU Park in Coney Island.

The Bearcats advance to the 7:00 pm contest this evening, while John Jay is eliminated with their second tournament loss. The Bearcats will wait to play the loser of the 4:00 pm Staten Island versus Stevens contest. For a complete schedule and latest results, please scroll to the bottom of this story.


Angel Tejeda had a big game with a three run double to clear the bases for a 3-1 lead in the opening inning. He later hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning to plate Keith Ezersky.

The Bearcats broke open the game with five runs in the eighth inning, highlighted by a
Philip Loprete two run double and a Zachary T. Uher two run single to turn the playoff into a rout to stay alive one more game.

Andrew Lizardi pitched a complete game (8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 10 K) to earn the win.

Esteban Soler and R.J. Davila each had two hits for the Bloodhounds who committed seven errors. They ended their season with a 6-24 record.
