YellowJackets Drop 7-1 Decision to Concordia (Texas)

More news about: LeTourneau

No. 1 seed and host Concordia scored a run in each of the first three innings en route to a 7-1 victory over LeTourneau University, who is the No. 2 seed in the ASC Baseball Tournament Championship game on Saturday.

The YellowJackets (31-13) are not through with the tournament; however, with the tournament being double elimination as the two teams will face each other for the third time in the tournament on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Concordia (31-13) built an early 3-0 lead on LeTourneau starter Jordan Price, who got the nod for the first time since a non-conference tilt on April 16, last year against the University of Dallas.

The lone run for LeTourneau came in the seventh when junior David Perkins hit his first home run of the season. Sophomore Sean Sellers had two of the seven hits for LeTourneau in the loss.

With a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the seventh, Concordia added four more. In the inning, two of which came in on a two-RBI single by Brent Schaekel.

LeTourneau, who had six-straight double figure hit games coming into the contest, were held to seven hits by the Tornados' Scott Weinschenk and Cameron Cox. With runners on first and second in the fourth with none out, Concordia turned a rare 5-4-3 triple play to keep the YellowJackets off the scoreboard.

Weinschenk allowed just five hits, a run - that was earned – and struck out four in the win to raise his record for Concordia. Cameron Cox pitched two innings of two-hit relief to close out the contest.

The winner of Sunday's contest will secure an automatic bid into next weekend's NCAA Regional Tournament. The selection show for the tournament will be Sunday at 11 p.m.
