McGill leads baseball win over Guilford

ROME, Ga.—Berry College (2-0) defeated Guilford College (0-2) 9-3 at William R. Bowdoin Field. The Vikings displayed strong offense with 15 hits while shutting down the Quakers for six innings.

Alex McGill led the surge for Berry by going 5-5 with four singles and a double. He recorded a stolen base, plated two RBIs and scored once.

Dusty Tyson proved to be a strong lead-off batter by touching home three times while tallying a single and a double. Ryan Smith and Alfred Francis each had two hits and a run. Kevin Scott and Francis both had two RBIs. Ben Jernigan capped a seven-run fourth inning with a three run home run.

Will Estes started the game for the Vikings and worked four innings. He allowed one hit and no runs and struck out four batters as well. Glen Williamson pitched a perfect pair of innings of relief.

Grayson Tuttle went 2-4 with a double to lead the Quakers.

The Vikings will travel to LaGrange College on Feb. 10 to square off against the Panthers at 5 p.m. Berry returns home for a three game series against Emory & Henry starting Feb. 14 with a seven inning doubleheader.
